Inspiration in Northshield

Inspiration is an ideal which is near and dear to Us. We are looking for those in Northshield, our Kingdom and home, who inspire others through deeds both small and large. We are relying on Our people to advise Us at all times, and this is a moment where We very much need your aid. This isn’t about awards or titles – it is about those things which make us Northshield. From the new fighter choosing their first consort to the artisan who donates children’s toys for largess – to even the Duchess who spends her events teaching and learning new things…. Please take a moment to tell Us about those who inspire you and why.

As a reminder on the rest of the format and weapon styles:

The challenge in tree will be filled by token draw during morning court. There will be 8 numbered place tokens with 2 numbered challenge tokens, and 10 name tokens. We will have other people draw tokens from each to decide the ordering.

Those that are paired with the challenge tokens will start the tournament by challenging in to the main tree, the loser of the challenges will challenge in during the second round in the loser bracket. If anybody drops out of the tournament or is unable to attend at the last minute, The challenge tokens would be removed first. If it drops below 8, all of the tokens will stay in and the un-drawn tokens would turn into bye fights.

Prior to the finals, all bouts will be best 2 out of 3 with choice in matched weapons determined by Precedence based on fighting awards; first:lower, second:higher, third (if needed):lower. No repeats on weapon styles. Once we reach the semifinals, the two losers’ bracket combatants will need to win 2 out of 3 twice and the winners’ bracket combatant 2 out of 3 once, in order to move to the finals. The Finals will be best 3 of 5 with choice of matched weapon styles determined by Precedence based on fighting awards: Low, High, Low, High, Low. No repeated weapon styles.

Allowed weapon styles are bastard sword (4-5 foot), great sword (5-6 foot), pole arm (6-foot maximum), 6-foot spear (butt spike allowed), 2 single handed weapons, sword and buckler (18″ max).

If combatants do not have all the authorizations needed to use a particular weapon, it is suggested that they work on getting the authorization beforehand, otherwise a seax will be assigned for use.

Rules of the list include a handshake at the end of the bout/ bouts to conform both combatants are satisfied. If necessary, Marshals will call hold and have the Combatants discuss blows. They will not call blows unless asked.

We look forward to seeing you all in the Canton of Coille Stoirmiel on May 14. If you have questions on anything please contact us.

Coronation thoughts and thank you.

To the most Stellar Kingdom of Northshield… Thank you.

Saturday was one of the most magical days we have both had in our SCA lives and it was because of the work, dedication and joy of our Kingdom. Many things – both small and large – are set in our memories forever. Please forgive us if we miss anyone in particular in our thanks – we tried very hard to keep track of everything but it was an extraordinary event.

To the Shire of Rivenwood Tower and their amazing staff for the day – Thank you for being our lovely hosts for this event. The site was great and we appreciated all the decor and pre-planning. THL Wilhelm von Ambor took care of our every request. Our thanks also to those who took time to run martial activities – Baron Damiano for Armored Combat, THL Cledwyn for rapier and Lady Aneka  for archery.

Our magnificent feast was done by Lord Lucius and included entertainment by multiple singers, drummers, comedians and servers; Lord Baldwin, Baroness Ekaterina, THL Bastien , Lady Coquette, Mistress Elashava and many, many, many more.

Our heartfelt thanks to those who help us build all the things that came together for our ceremony. THL Aibhilin  who was the mastermind and design diva for our garb and all of those who helped her out – Duchess Petranella and THL Jehanette and others. (name are hard today). The woodburning on the viking chests, which were made by Hunter of Ironwood, was done by THL Aodhan. To the crew that packed, hauled, set up and tore down everything – too numerous to name and yet, so amazingly dear to us. To those who thought it was smart to arm my best friends with calligraphy spears….. I’m still deciding if it is a “Thank you or How could you” type situation.

We owe a lot to our predecessors who were kind in showing us the ropes and tolerant of my personal exuberance for things (really, they were just tolerant of me in general) – Count Katsuo and Countess Aethelflaed. Thank you both for your dedication to the Kingdom. You have made it a better place.

And to all of Northshield – To those who were with us, to those who could not join us and to those who have passed beyond, thank you.

Haire Affair Thank you

I would like to thank the Shire of Falcon’s Keep, the staff, and all of the populace that attended Haire Affaire for a great event yesterday. Your hospitality and generosity was heart warming and made for an excellent day. From the Tournaments, to the classes, to the A&S display to holding our first Regency Court and a wonderful Feast, it is truly Good to be Northshield.
